Many parents realize the importance of nutrition in the growth of their children. However, some mistakes in food choice might accidentally influence their children's height growth in a negative way. This article reveals a number of food categories that you should let your children stay away.

Cakes and candies

Sweets are one of the causes of obesity and rapid weight gain. Overeating sweets such as candies or cakes or food high in starch will lead to the release of an inhibitory hormone on the skeleton restraining the bone growth and skeleton development.

Moreover, eating a lot of sweets will cause obesity and rapid weight gain that cause pressure on bones and restrain the bone growth and cartilage growth. As a result, the height growth will be hindered.

Overly greasy foods

Overly greasy foods lead to excessive calories in their bodies and causes obesity. Also, the content of vitamin D and fibre in this kind of food will be lost during food processing, which affects calcium metabolism in the body.

Foods containing too much salt

Salt plays an important role to the body but eating too much salt will cause the body to excrete more calcium leading to calcium loss. Therefore, parents should control the salt intake of their children

When we eat too much salt, our bodies will suffer from fluid retention causing edema and high blood pressure. High blood pressure not only causes cardiovascular diseases but also puts pressure on the renal arteries, thereby causing kidney damage. Moreover, sodium also eliminates calcium from the body, which causes negative influence on the height growth of children. This explains why children eating too much salt are often stunted.

Fast food

A latest study has shown that the height of today’s children is declining compared to children in the previous decades. The main reason is the impact of fast food such as hamburger, pizza, fried chicken, etc.

Fast food is quickly processed mainly by frying and using a lot of preservatives that lose nutrients in food such as vitamin D, Calcium and fibre which are extremely essential for the height growth.

Too much beef

Most people think that beef is nutritious and good food for children's height growth. That's why many parents let children eat beef frequently. Although beef is rich in protein, it will make children suffer from bone and joint diseases in cases of overeating. Beef contains very little calcium. Meanwhile, it mainly contains acidic elements such as sulphur, phosphorus and chlorine causing high levels of acid in the blood. The body must use calcium to neutralize these levels of acid in order to regulate and stabilize the blood. In this process, the loss of calcium will influence height growth.

The aforementioned food is among the ones that are not good for height growth. So, the best way is to add healthy food for the height growth to your children's daily meals such as carrots, eggs, chicken, soy, vegetables, fruits, etc. A balanced diet will not only help children grow taller but also help them stay healthy.
